Shelagh McKay Jones

Shelagh McKay Jones – Singer-Songwriter from Greenock, described as a local luminary, tells stories of love, life and laughter with well-crafted songs. A Capella and self-accompanied in her individual percussive guitar style she won Inverclyde’s Scottish Folk & Roots Festival 2014, DKOS at CC2015 and shared stages with Alastair McDonald, Gaberlunzie, Rab Noakes, Archie Fisher, Jez Lowe, James Keelaghan, Sylvia Barnes, Siobhan Miller, James Grant and Maisie Peters. Shelagh is also the founder/organiser/presenter/promoter of SongWriters Uncovered Series – a series of concerts held in the Beacon Arts Centre throughout 2017 & 2018 and now expanding to include community concerts throughout Inverclyde in 2019 – and Permission to Sing & Freedom with SongWriting workshops. Currently working on her first full album of original songs Shelagh is also a founding member/writer/composer with The Fusioneers (Scottish Indian fusion band) performing a gig theatre show Barra to Bengal. She is also working on a new gig theatre show about the life of legendary Yorkshire Dales shepherdess Hannah Hauxwell and aims to have written 50 songs before she turns 51 in 2019. Shelagh is also a campaigner and fundraiser for people with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder & Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes and has just started an MSc with the Open University through which she hopes to carry out much needed research into symptoms of this group of chronic lifelong invisible illnesses.
